An introduction to our friends from Germany - Wolfi Schmid and family

Wolfi, his wife and two daughters live in the south of Munich and are avid supporters of TSV 1860 München.

Wolfi said: “There’s a great rivalry between 1860, The Lions, and FC Bayern München. FC Bayern is the big business club, whereas 1860 is the ‘workers’ club with a great tradition.

More information about 1860 is available on www.tsv1860.de.

After learning of the town of Berwick-upon-Tweed’s history Wolfi, who prefers to be known as a Bavarian rather than German, became interested in its football club, Berwick Rangers, describing it as a very friendly club, after logging on to the Supporters’ Club website, and hopes to keep in regular contact with supporters via email.

Wolfi visited the town of Berwick upon Tweed and Shielfield Park to watch Berwick Rangers beat Montrose 2-0 on September 26th 2009, and Forfar Athletic (0-1) the following Saturday, before flying home impressed - we hoped - he was!

A year later Wolfi returned to Shielfield Park to take in the back-to-back home matches verses Arbroath (4-1) andStranraer (2-2).

Having caught the 'Berwick Bug' completely, Wolfi was back for a third visit in the autumn of 2011 when he took in his first away match and watched a superb 4-1 win at Clyde on September 24th and a 1-0 home defeat at the hands of Annan Athletic on October 1st.

Using the phrase made famous by Arnold Schwarzenegger, Wolfi said afterwards: "I'll be back!"
